E) Camo selection
The Quick-Set™ blind is offered in several camo patterns to match your surroundings. The camo material is secured with ball snuggers included with the blind.

F) Fits MOST jon boats
The Quick-Set™ blind is built to fit most boats designed specifically for waterfowl hunting. The QS is ideally suited for aluminum jon boats 12'-19' in length. For detailed information or questions about fitting specific boats, please see section #2 below (Will the QS blind fit my boat?).

G) Customization
Your blind can be customized to fit almost any boat; however, you will need to spend extra time and attention to details in order for it to work with a certain type of boat. (See section #2).

Will the QS Blind fit my boat?

A) What is the ideal boat when using a QS Blind?
For optimal performance we suggest using a 14'-19' flat front or modified v-hull with a rear bench seat or pods to provide a flat mounting surface. In terms of tiller steering vs. a side-steering console, there are certain boats that might not be ideal for using a QS blind. Others might include the following: some fiberglass recreational boats, pirogue, canoes and pontoons.

We suggest using a "blind friendly" boat for easy installation. However, the QS blind has been mounted on every type of boat imaginable with some detailed customization that took extra time.

B) Will the QS Blind fit a V-Hull?
Yes, however, you will typically need mounting brackets to provide a mounting surface for the front legs of the blind. One thing to note is that you are trying to fit a rectangular blind to fit a V-Hull boat. Customization is the key to making the blind fit this particular style boat and slight modifications to the frame are necessary to fit the contour of the boat.

C) Will the QS Blind fit a fiberglass boat?
Yes, you will typically need to use mounting brackets with nuts and bolts. The QS typically mounts with RivNuts which are designed to set in thin aluminum. A fiberglass wall is normally too thick to allow for the proper setting of the RivNuts. Typically, this is not an ideal boat to use for mounting a QS Blind.

D) Will the QS work with a Go-Devil® style motor?
Yes, a Go-Devil® and a QS blind are one of the deadliest combinations in boat hunting, because you can go anywhere and hide fast when you get there! We have developed a rear frame assemblies that drops the frame rail so that the blind does not interfere with the performance of the steering of the motor. This attachment is "U" shaped to allow for the up-and-down motion of a Go-Devil's® steering shaft.

"For years duck hunters have found a Go-Devil Boat equipped with an Avery Quick-Set Boat Blind to be one of the most effective waterfowling tools available. Once the Go-Devil gets you to the ducks, the Avery Blind sets up quickly, providing concealment with a design that is very easy to use. The Go-Devil and the Avery Quick-set Blind...Truly, a deadly combination!" -Warren A. Coco, Owner of Go-Devil Mfg.

E) Will the QS Blind work on a boat with a side steering console?
Yes, the key to mounting a QS Blind on a boat with a steering console is to make sure the frame will clear the console and throttle lever when blind is in the collapsed position. This is accomplished by bending the frame around the console. This will require some customization but can be done without any problems. (Show Photo) This process can also be used to help with fuel tanks, gun boxes, batteries, etc.

Installation Tips
A) How long should an average assembly take?
Four to Five Hours

B) What is a RivNut? A threaded aluminum device used to receive the bolts. They are often used in situations where a nut cannot be attached to the bolt. For optimal performance RivNuts should always be used on aluminum boats.

C) How do I install a RivNut?
To install a RivNut, simply thread a RivNut onto the bolt that comes pre-installed with the setting tool and leave a 1/16" gap between the top of the RivNut and the bottom of the setting tool. Now, insert the RivNut into the drilled hole and, using a 9/16" box wrench to hold the setting tool in place, tighten the bolt with a 7/16" wrench until it is snug. (If you have trouble inserting the RivNut into the hole, simply file the hole slightly with a round file until the RivNut fits. Be conservative when filing to avoid creating a hole too large for the RivNut). Repeat these steps until all of the RivNuts are set. Be careful not to misplace the bolt that is on the setting tool as it must be used in a later step!

D) How is the RainTop installed? You attach the RainTop to the FlipTop™ with Velcro tabs underneath the CamoNet™. It drops over the main frame rail between CamoNet™ and WindBlocker™

E) How do I attach the FlipTops™?
Thread the Canopy Side Rails into the large loop of the Top Straps that are attached to the Side Frame Rails. Insert the Front and Rear Canopy Frame Corner Tubes into the Canopy Side Rails and connect the hinge clips to the Front and Rear Canopy Corner Tubes.

Line up the Canopy Frame Corner Tubes with the Front and Rear Frame Corner Tubes so that the FlipTops™ rest directly on top of the Frame. IMPORTANT: DO NOT MOVE FLIPTOPS™ INWARD TO CLOSE ANY GAP IN THE TOP OF THE BLIND AS THIS WILL CAUSE YOUR CAMOSKIRTS TO FIT INCORRECTLY!

Drill through the guide holes at the front of each Canopy Side Rails and bolt to the Front FlipTop™ Corner Tubes using 1 1/4" bolts and nuts.

Line up the Canopy Side Rails with the Side Rails and drill through the guide holes at the rear of the Canopy Side Rails. Bolt the Canopy Side Rails to the Rear FlipTop™ Corner Tubes using 1 1/4" bolts and nuts.

Attach the hinge clips to the frame rails by drilling with a 1/4" drill bit and attaching with 1-1/2" bolts. (Very Important: Make sure to push the hinge clips up flush against the frame rails while drilling so that the tops will pivot freely).

F) What is a ball snugger?
A ball snugger allows you to fasten the WindBlocker™ and CamoNet™ to the main fram rail while you travel with the blind to and from your hunting location.

Customization Tips

A) Laying out the Blind
Layout the entire frame on the ground to get a good idea of how it will mount inside the boat before you begin drilling the holes. B) Bending the frame
Bend corner tubes to follow the contour of the main frame rail.

C) Using a trolling motor?
Before beginning the installation, layout the blind in the boat with the trolling motor attached as you will use it. Keeping in mind that it typically works, you will need to identify what frame customization will be necessary.

D) Attaching WindBlockers™
1) Raise the FlipTops™ so that they do not interfere while attaching the WindBlockers™ to the frame.

2) Use the Velcro fasteners to attach the WindBlockers™ to the Frame Rails of the blind. When completed, the WindBlockers™ should overlap in the front and rear; therefore, you should begin at the front of the blind and work to the rear. (Hint: Attach the first Velcro fastener of each Windblocker™ to the Front Frame Rail on the far side of the opposite FlipTop™ so that they will not slide.)

3) While attaching the WindBlockers™, you will secure the ball snuggers by spacing them evenly around the frame of the blind. Install by placing the elastic loop of the ball snugger between two pieces of Velcro on the WindBlocker™ and secure next to the frame. Pull the elastic through so that the ball rests against the frame. You will use the ball snuggers to secure the blind to the frame when traveling.

4) Attach one WindBlocker™ at a time. When you are finished attaching, the front and rear of the WindBlockers should overlap allowing for free movement of dogs, etc.

E) Attaching CamoNets™
1) Attach one CamoNet™ at a time. Start at the front of the blind and move to the rear by attaching the first Velcro fastener to the Front Frame Rail on the far side of the opposite FlipTop™. When you reach the FlipTop™, attach the CamoNet™ to the FlipTop™ until you reach the Rear Frame Rail and then attach the remainder of the CamoNet™ to the Rear Frame Rail. Repeat this procedure for the second CamoNet™.

2) With the blind up and the FlipTops™ raised to the desired slant for hunting, attach the CamoNets™ to the Side Frame Rails with plastic cable ties. Simply make small incisions in the CamoNets™ where they meet the Side Frame Rails and attach with cable ties every 18". Remove the excess cable tie when tight. This will hold the CamoNets out of the water when the FlipTops™ are pushed forward for shooting. This step is very important as it will keep CamoNets™ from getting wet and freezing in cold weather.

F) Will my dog have access?
The WindBlocker™ and CamoNet™ can easily be raised to allow for exit and entry of your retriever.

G) Can I use a gun box?
Yes, in most cases. You will need to lift the QS blind frame in order to get access to your gun box.

Troubleshooting

A) Boat too short for blind
The Quick-Set™ Waterfowl Blind is designed to fit boats as short as 12' in length, but some cutting will be required when the overall length of the blind causes the Insert to meet with the Front or Rear Corner Tubes and Front and Rear Canopy Corner Tubes. If this occurs, simply cut the same length from each of the Rear Corner Tubes and Rear Canopy Corner Tubes so that the blind can be assembled.

B) Canopy will not close
This occurs when the Front Canopy Corner Tubes are too close together and will not allow the tops to close far enough to hold a slant. This can be remedied by simply cutting 3-4" from the short arm of each Front Canopy Corner Tube and replacing the pivot hole.

C) Latch clip(s) and leg(s) do not close
This is caused when the Leg Assembly is not lined up with the Frame Rails. It may be necessary for you to widen the opening on the Latch Clip so that it will accept the leg.

D) Mounting surface is fiberglass or there is no mounting surface
You will need to order a set of Mounting Brackets. These brackets attach to the side of the boat and offer sufficient area for attachment of each base plate.

E) Mounting surface is wood
Use wood screws instead of RivNuts

F) Blind does not stand at 90 degree angle to boat seats
You may need to unbolt the Front and Rear Frame Rails from the Corner Tubes as well as the Stabilizer Bar assemblies and reposition the blind.

G) Blind does not "sit" all the way down when lowered
This occurs when Side Rails were bolted with blind in "up" position. The blind must be in the "down" position when Side Rails are bolted to the Corner Tubes!

H) Blind Sways
If your blind is having a problem where to will sway in the "up" position, make sure when you installed the frame rails that you pulled the frame rails apart while drilling the holes. This will tighten the blind and will prevent the blind from swaying.

I) RivNuts spin
If your RivNuts are spinning then drill them out and insert a new RivNut, the RivNut was not properly installed.

Hunting Hints & Tips

A) LOCATION, LOCATION, LOCATION
B) Blend the boat into your surroundings!
C) Put the call away!
D) If possible, position the blind in shadows
E) Position the bow or stern facing the wind. This will keep incoming ducks from looking directly at your location.
F) Keep your face in the shadow created by the FlipTops™. Mainly on cloudy days.
G) Store with care after the hunt and after the season. Storing the CamoNets™ and WindBlockers™ wet in freezing weather will affect the performance of the material.
H) Make sure that exposed WindBlocker™ material is striped or painted in some other fashion to avoid flaring ducks.
I) Use black cable ties to protect against flaring cupped ducks to your presence.
